Have a Happy Halloween…

October 31st, 2009

halloween-photography-tips-1

Its that time of year again, we have a basket full of sweets waiting for the trick or treaters to come knocking. This year is the first year my two haven’t asked to go out, although Rebecca is planning to wear her costume to answer the door…. I hope she doesn’t scare the little ones!

I’ve been working until ‘stupid o’clock’ these past few weeks, trying to make head way on orders which I need to get out for Christmas. Today I am pouring and cleaning green-ware which will hopefully dry sufficiently enough so that I can fire the pieces tomorrow evening, ready to start painting on Monday.

Speaking of painting, Wednesday was Art Class again, Dad and I are making great progress with our paintings, were almost done, Dad’s waiting for the oils to dry before continuing with his masterpiece… while I need to blend, blend, blend… a few things here and there. I thought you may like to see an update…

Hello Wednesday…

October 21st, 2009

Phew…. its been a super, super busy few days in the J-R house hold. Days and evenings which have been spent working on dolls in my studio, I feel like I’m finally getting through the back log of orders I have and I can’t tell you how happy it makes me feel.

Today, was Art Class, which as you know I attend with my Dad. We had a great time and I don’t mind telling you, I think I’m becoming an addict…

Dad's Painting looks amazing...

Works in Progress...

My painting is the tulips… {NOT!…. but I WISH I could say it was…! that’s Dad’s}
Working in oil paints, Dad’s using a photograph which he took back in the summer. I can’t believe how much he has achieved in such a short time… it’s no where near being finished but as you can see it’s really beautiful, he is so talented!

Mine is the rose, although it doesn’t really resemble anything at the moment, that said, I’m really enjoying painting it. I’m using Acrylics and also like Dad a photograph as reference. Obviously I haven’t achieved as much… but I am getting there and hopefully it will look as beautiful when its finished…. {fingers tightly crossed…!}

Dad's Painting is Amazing...

I really can’t wait for our next Art Class, when I’ll be saying ‘Hello Wednesday’ again.

Whatever your doing and where ever you are, have a wonderful Wednesday!

To Autumn…

October 16th, 2009

The Season of Mist & Mellow Fruitfulness…
John Keats 1795-1821.

I love Autumn, with its beautiful colours and textures, its cold mornings and bright crisp days. Autumn really is one of my favourite times of the year.

Tomorrow, Christian and I are horse riding, its something we love to do each weekend and spending some quality time with my son is just wonderful.

Rebecca is a real girlie girl and loves spending time with me, today was an in-service day at school, she joined my Mum and I shopping… we had a lovely ‘girlie’ day.

Christian, on the other hand doesn’t like to spend too much time with me nowadays because I guess its way too uncool… I’m thankful he enjoys horse back riding so much. He’s only been riding a few months and he has taken to it like a ‘duck-to-water’, in fact he’s a natural.

I’m looking forward to riding through the woods early in the morning just the two of us, with nothing but the sound of the horses breath and hooves… tomorrow of course we will have the added bonus of the beautiful autumnal colours too… and I can’t wait!

Wherever you are in the world and whatever your doing this weekend, I hope you have a most wonderful time…

Good Old Days…

October 14th, 2009

The past couple of days have been spent merrily working in my studio. At the moment, I am am working on an Edwardian Parlour Maid, she is a repeat order and I’m really enjoying dressing her in fact she is going together so well, she is almost dressing herself although, sewing black material is quite hard on the eye.

Sitting in here quietly, I’m finding my thoughts are slipping elsewhere…

Dad is my Mum’s carer and I felt he needed some time for himself. Before he had to retire some ten months early to care for Mum, Dad was an Art Director for an Advertising Agency, yet rarely was he able to paint pictures for himself… so, when he asked me to look for an Art Class for him to attend I was not surprised, however… little did I know I would find myself sitting in the Art class alongside him!

Last Wednesday was our first class and we enjoyed it very much. Dad referred to it as being “just like the good old days” I was rather proud to be sitting there next to him, and he was quite right it was just like the good old days. I spent my time carefully sketching in what I plan to paint using a photograph as reference.

For those of you who have read my ‘about me’ page you will know I have painted all of my life. However, I am finding myself quite nervous thinking about class this afternoon… not only have I chosen a rather large canvas on which to paint, but I’ve also chosen a new medium too. Whilst I paint using China paint regularly, I’ve never used Oils… and for the past 9 years, I’ve been working in a much smaller scale… 1:12 to be exact, so as you can imagine I’m a little apprehensive to say the least, I really hope it works out… either way I shall endeavor to keep you posted… so please watch this space!

Lazy Sunday…

October 11th, 2009

Its a beautiful Sunday afternoon, the sun is shining, Mark, my husband, is pottering around in the kitchen, Christian, my eldest, is playing cricket outside with his friend, while Rebecca who slept at my parents is potting winter hanging baskets in their garden with my Dad…

I love Sunday’s because I always seem to achieve a huge amount of work and today is no exception, I’ve just finished an Edwardian Nanny with her Charge, she is an order and thus sold… this lucky lady is off to live in Spain with her new owner…!

Some of you may already be aware, my Mum was diagnosed with a terminal illness in April after some three + years of mis-diagnosis. As you can imagine it came as a huge shock to us all. Considering Mum’s diagnosis and prognosis, she is doing very well at the moment and life is slowly getting back to normal.

Currently, I am working as hard as I can trying to catch up on my orders and I’d like to take this opportunity to sincerely thank you all for your patience while waiting for your orders.

On that note, I am off to work on some more.

Have a wonderful Sunday.
