MarrHouseLJR1

Well, we’ve done it… we have moved… it wasn’t an easy road getting here, but now we are here we can barely believe Marr House is ours.

MarrHouseLJR2

Beautiful isn’t it…? with gorgeous open views from every window, lovely long walks in every direction, we keep pinching ourselves…

Christmas At Home…

December 24th, 2011

… It’s Christmas Eve, come on in… and take a look around …

… You’ll find there’s always a Warm Welcome …

… And Even more so at Christmas …

… For us, it’s a very special time of year …

… A time when everything twinkles and glistens …

… and there’s a touch of magic in the air …

… The table is set for our Christmas Eve supper …

… Nothing escapes a touch of Christmas dressing …

… There’s even something Christmassy about our Rocking Horse …

… Christmas is my one weakness don’t you know …

… with twinkling lights, hearts, wreaths and candles galore …

All that’s left to say is We Wish you All a Wonderful Christmas
from our Home to Yours and we hope
the New Year brings you all, Everything You Wish for and more …

Its Beginning To Look A Lot Like Christmas…

December 21st, 2010

Christmas is a magical time in our home,
I thought I’d share some pictures with you …

I have lots of cushions everywhere…
They’re my one weakness don’t you know… ?

I have quite a few candles too …

… And …
Lots of Lanterns around the house …
there’s something quite magic about candle light …

I have them everywhere …

They look so pretty glistening at night …

trimmed with red ribbon … and holly …

And … its not like we save on the electricity bill
because I have lamps everywhere too… AND I better not mention the chandeliers …

Even Sophie has a Christmas bow …
But I don’t think she is terribly happy about it …

My Vintage Glass Baubles…
Did I mention I have a weakness for all things Vintage… ?

This beauty was a gift … to myself …
Its gorgeous and I just had to have it …

Our garland has twinkling fairy lights on it
and it winds up our staircase…

Under-the-stairs I have an old chest of drawers …
and a candle or two …

We have a black Christmas tree in the kitchen,
Its a rather blurred picture I’m afraid…

I’ve taken all of these pictures using my blackberry
as my camera is broken …

and I’ve been a good girl for most of the year
… Mr Clause (hint, hint)

My lovely parents bought us this fabulous flat screen tv
for our kitchen wall as a joint Christmas gift …

When I set the table on Christmas Eve I’ll take a picture to share with you… at the moment I have a small collection of candles on it…

I believe that Christmas should be about L.O.V.E.
You can’t touch it or taste it, but it makes you feel good.

Any Old Chair………

November 30th, 2010

Can you remember the dilema I had with my chair in a previous post?
“Take a Chair …….”

… Well, I finally decided to cover it with some lovely …
Laura Ashley cranberry velvet spot fabric
which I had lying around
….. its not really what I had planned for it …..
… it kind of just evolved…
but I’m really quite pleased with it……………

What do you think…………. ?

………. I have them scattered all over our home ……….

………………… In every nook and cranny …………………

…………. I L.O.V.E them ………….

………. Its not an addiction though ……….

………. I can give up any time I want ……….

Take a Chair…………

June 2nd, 2010

I love chairs… I think it may be my one weakness……………..!
I purchased this one a few years ago with a view to reupholstering it.

But, alas, it’s sat in a corner… collecting dust… while I’ve tried and tried…………… to decide what to do with it…………………………… a little gilding perhaps……………… or maybe I could paint it black or cream………………….. hmm decisions, decisions……………….
what would you do with it……………….?

Better Late than Never…

Mum & Rebecca’s Paste Easter Eggs…

A Belated “Happy Easter” to everyone.
I’m so sorry not to be updating posts as frequently as I would like, we are still very busy with renovating the hall, landings and staircases… Easter actually came and went without either Mark or I even realising it…!

Mark’s making progress with the stone flooring…

Were working so hard trying to get it all finished in time for the arrival of the decorator in a little over a week. Mark’s been going to work while I’ve been working on my doll orders, and together we’ve been working in the evenings and weekends, we’ve not been sitting down to eat dinner each night before 10.30pm.

Freshly varnished landings and stair treads, only 3 more coats to go…!

Currently, Mark is laying marble tiles in the hall and I’m varnishing the landing floors and stair treads… there are only 3 more coats to go! I’m pleased to say I think were making progress, although there is still so much still to do. We have to put skirting boards and door frames on, fit the spindles and the list continues…
I hope we can do it in time, although I fret we may have to postpone it a week…?!

The original landing floor lovingly sanded & with its first coat of varnish…

Mum and Rebecca made paste Easter Eggs last weekend not only did they had lots of fun making them, I think you will agree, they look absolutely wonderful… well saying who my daughter takes after on the creative stakes!

Rebecca’s Paste Egg Princess…!

Meanwhile, as Christian is of the age whereby he is way too cool to paint hard boiled eggs, he’s been entertaining himself practising on his electric guitar and helping my Dad in the garden.

Christian helping his Papa, in my parents garden…!

Well that’s my break over for now… I really must go and get on with my dolls. Once Mark finishes up this evening, I have to put another coat of varnish on the original stair treads… but please do check back often as I am hoping to release some dolls for sale very soon…!

Have a great weekend whatever your doing!

Home is Where the Heart Is…

April 1st, 2010

I’ve not had much time to update my blog lately, so I thought I’d explain what I’ve been up too…! Over the past six years my hubs and I have done a lot of major renovations to our Victorian home… starting with a loft conversion and progressing on to a large kitchen extension.

Sanding The Stair Treads with My Little Helper…
(The Stain Can Be Seen on The Back of the treads, but this will be painted so only a light sanding was required)…

At the moment, were working on the hall, landings and stair cases. I don’t mind telling you at one point during the past few weeks, I wish we’d never started. While Mark was stripping and sanding the floors, I’ve been stripping and sanding the staircase treads… all by hand, using only small hand tools.

The Hubs (My Other Little Helper) Sanding the Door Frames…

Currently Mark is stripping the horrible wood coloured paint off the door frames… he’s been working on them for 3 days now. I really don’t know what would possess anyone to want to paint a faux wood paint over such beautiful wood… but hey ho!! And the mess… oh my, its absolutely horrendous and the darn stuff gets ‘everywhere’!!

The Half Landing…

Meanwhile, even sanding the stair treads didn’t remove the stain from the center of the stair treads, something which was a fashion trend in the 1900s, in an attempt to strip it away, I’m bleaching them… I think its working albeit very slowly though… as I am on to my 14th attempt, we ache all over, but I keep telling myself and Mark, it will be worth it!

One of The 7 Chandeliers I Have Boxed Away…

I’m really hoping that soon I will be able to take the 7 chandeliers I’ve had for 3+ years in storage, out of their boxes and hang them up from the ceilings… and I’ve my eyes on a beautiful grand mirror for the first floor landing and a lovely console table and mirror for the hall… actually my mind is swirling round with lots of ideas… I think I may be getting excited!
